Designed the experience of Vegetation Management, Supply Chain, Distribution, Transmission and Gas custom tablet & Mobile Phone applications ( Duke Enable Project ). Designed to connect with IBM® Maximo® Asset Management. Hardware and eco system – Windows mobile on toughpad tablets and phone to be used in outdoor conditions and utilize custom mapping with GPS. 6-9k units in field by Q1 2017.

Goal
To utilize new technology to reduce multiple manual data entries, duplicate information and scheduling problems. Reduce timing and scheduling problems and overhead costs of time management.

Approach
Discovery of process through user interviews. Documented scenarios through white boarding and journey mapping and process flow documents. Created wireframes and documented each screen and function, matched to a task. Created and tested prototypes with User Interviews and testing. Presented findings to team and Executive leadership.

Problem

  • 90% of field personnel using paper and multi level data entry points
  • Duplication of efforts for 5 main service units
  • Off the shelf solution not viable for needed use
  • 80% of users in field have little to no tablet work experience
  • Mapping experience limited to paper, possible use of outdated maps
